More Roadworks in Hitchin

Cambridge Road remains closed near the Millstream Pub and the College while the Purwell bridge repair work continues. Local drivers travelling between Hitchin and Letchworth have acclimatised to using alternative routes and particularly the Stevenage Road (A602) to A1(M).

Many residents on the east side of Hitchin, especially those around Ninesprings Way and St. Michaels Road, should be aware of additional roadworks planned to start on 6th April on Oakfield Avenue, the popular shortcut to and from Stevenage Road.

The roadworks are necessary to repair the many potholes along Oakfield Avenue, which became dramatically worse after the winter ice and snow.

Traffic will be controlled with stop and go boards, but since Oakfield Avenue is already congested with on-street parking it is probably wise to avoid it altogether until the repairs are complete.
