Building Schools for the Future? or Schools with no future?

With the announcement that the Building Schools for the future scheme introduced by the Labour government is going to be scrapped, are we looking to a generation of children who are years behind their international counterparts.
We have spent many years hearing that 'education is the key building a stronger Britain' and now we are being told that 'it will save billions' and help our country's deficit' if we stop redeveloping schools all over the country. We were warned, when the Conservative/Lib Dem government came into power that we were facing tough times but surely depriving the youngsters of Britain the opportunity to 'be amongst the best' is going to produce difficulties in the long term. We already lack certain skill bases in the science and mathematical fields so will these cutbacks throw our key competencies into further disarray and we will see more key professions in the UK being filled by our international cousins?
Fortunately, at the moment schools in the Hitchin area have not been to badly affected according to reports for the BBC. But, local towns such as Stevenage and Luton have been hit much harder were schools are already in desperate need of improvement and redevelopment.
