Hitchin Tweet Up
Last night (23/11/10) I held the first ever Hitchin Tweet Up as a way of bringing local people who use Twitter together to meet in the flesh. I must admit, I spent most of yesterday worrying that it was going to be a complete disaster with no-one turning up! However, I am extremely happy to report that all my worrying was unwarranted.
We had a total of 17 people attend which was a fantastic turn out for the first one. There were a few unforeseen oversights on my part, including picking the same night as the pub quiz and being in a 3G black hole, but if anything these provided comical entertainment rather than caused any actual problems.
Conversation last night was wonderfully varied and it was
great that several people who were not yet on Twitter but thinking about it came
along too. I would like to say thank you
to everyone who attended for making it such a good night.
Many people were asking when the next Hitchin Tweet Up would
be. I had originally thought of
arranging them quarterly, but due to popular demand I have decided to
bring the next one forward to Wednesday 19th January. The venue will
be different. I am going to be speaking
with some of the pubs in Hitchin over the next week or so to see who would be
happy to give us a designated area. So
if anyone can suggest a good pub to hold the next one in please let me
know.
The next Tweet Up will have slightly more format to it –
details to follow shortly. Just as
before please register your interest on the new TweetVite.
I would be really interested in hearing any feedback you
might have about last night, so please feel free to comment below.

thebpc - Nope, it's not just a networking event for businesses it is for anyone. People should use TweetUps the same way they use Twitter. If you use twitter to promote your business then do that at a TweetUp but a lot of people just want to meet the people they Tweet with :) It was really relaxed last night with loads of laughs.
timreporter - I really like the Highlander but that is a 3G black hole as well. If they have WiFi then it would be perfect if you are in there any time soon and could ask them about the WiFi that would be great? :)

ReportI'd love to come when the weather is better and the nights are lighter - as long as it doesn't turn into one of those awful business networking meetings where everyone is trying to push their services or products.

ReportYep...hit the keyboard and pressed send by accident...
Pleased it went well...sorry I couldn't be there.
I can get us an area at the Highlander, my local in Hitchin...it's lovely.
Looking forward to the next one.
