Today's Grim Weather in Hitchin
By HitchinPeople | Tuesday, January 03, 2012, 12:07
Hitchin woke up to some awful weather this morning (Tuesday), with heavy rain and gales making the return to work after the festive period a pretty drab one.
Looking at the rest of the UK however, it looks like Hitchin is getting away pretty lightly. The Met Office has issued its highest warning of 'Red' advising members of the public in a large part of Central Scotland to 'take action'. Winds of up to 100mph are expected to hit causing widespread disruption to travel and potential damage to buildings. With some snow blizzards also expected.
For most of England and Wales the Met Office has issued its 'yellow' warning of 'be aware' due to heavy winds. In fact Hitchin is in the only area of the UK not to have a warning issued.
However, with such severe weather surrounding us it is no wonder that Hitchin is as grim as it is.
The good news is that is will not last, reports say that by this afternoon the rain will have cleared and we may even see some sunny spells. Tomorrow will still be windy but should be mostly dry.
Hopefully the winds will not do too much damage today but please let us know if you have been affected by these gales.
