On Monday 13th June, seven riders, two tandems and one trandem (a three seater cycle) will set off on a 216 mile charity cycle ride.

They are aiming to raise £10,000 to be shared between the National Autistic Society, the Prostate Cancer Charity, and Keech Cottage Children's Hospice. Anyone can donate to help achieve the £10,000 target on the 'Random Riders' Just Giving page

Here's the route:

Monday 13th June – Hitchin to Whittlesey

Tuesday 14th June Whittlesey to Woodhall Spa

Wednesday 15th June – Woodhall Spa to Humber Bridge

Thursday 16th June – Humber Bridge to Scarborough

The team:

All the riders are either members of or friends of Hitchin Rotary Clubs.

David 'Wrong Way' Rickets: Geordie Dave moved to Hitchin in 1994, a graphic designer and keen cyclist, having completed the London to Paris cycle ride in 2008.

'Turbo' Tim Farr: Hitchin born Tim opened Tim's Art Supplies over 35 years ago, a avid fundraiser completing half marathons and Hitchin to Brighton cycle rides.

Tony 'Nippy' Norgan:  Born in Hitchin and founder of Norgans Estate Agents.  This ex Blueharts hockey player is no stranger to fundraising having walked the length of the River Thames to raise money for a much needed mini bus for Hitchin Helping Hands.

Mark 'Motivator' Manning:  Mark moved to Hitchin some 25 years ago, he has been involved in raising money for many a good cause.  Having only just taken up cycling everyone is hoping he doesn't start to regret it.

Alan 'Right Way' Wright:  Another newbie to cycling, Alan is a Chartered Management Accountant and 'green technology' enthusiast.  Well you can't get much more 'green' than pedal power!

John 'Johnny Gadget' Pearce: Born in Singapore, John, a retired biochemist and serial fundraiser, made Hitchin his home in 1991.  He is currently researching a soon to be published book on the history of Charlton, where he now lives.

'Speedy' Steve Dyer:  London born, Steve left these shores at 21 to join the Hong Kong Police.  Having trained as a lawyer, he returned to the UK and in 1997 opened his own law firm, Neves & Dyer.  Steve was also part of the fundraising team who walked the length of the Thames.

I'm sure everyone would like to join us in saying a massive good luck to Hitchin's very own Random Riders.  Please support them by making a donation via their Just Giving page
