Hitchin Museum starts 2012 with the exhibition, "Creative Minds", a joint exhibition of artwork from the residents of Burleigh Residential Home in Baldock and Nikki Catt-Marrison, Art Facilitator.  It runs from 28 January to 3 March 2012.

Nikki facilitates weekly art sessions at the home, where residents are able to explore their own creativity using a variety of art materials and techniques.  The sessions help residents develop and demonstrate their imaginative, expressive and perceptive skills, encouraging confidence and appreciation of their creative ability.

The sessions have led to an abundance of quality artworks included in the exhibition, shown alongside the artwork of Nikki Catt-Marrison.

Nikki, who paints with acrylics on canvas, said: "I work on my paintings over a period of time, adding layers that accumulate, without totally eradicating the previous layers and working back to reveal what lies beneath.  Like our emotions and experiences we can never eradicate what we have lived through.  The process of painting allows me to express my intentions through the motion of the brush or palette knife, colour and texture.  I begin with the seed of an idea either from my environment or feelings, then I am directed by the work.  I enjoy the interplay between my internal environment and external landscapes that evolve in the paintings."

Hitchin Museum is open from 10am  - 5pm daily (except Wed and Sun).
